Transstroy company, Russia's largest holding company in the field of infrastructure construction has started installation and supply of OTIS escalators and elevators at the main arena of St. Petersburg.
Delivery and installation of escalators and elevators of the world’s largest manufacturer of handling equipment, OTIS company, began on the stadium in St. Petersburg being constructed by Transstroy company. The project includes installation of 22 escalators and 25 elevators. All assembling works will be completed by the end of 2015.
Equipment meets the high technical level of the project and has the highest energy efficiency class by using the most advanced technologies. In particular, a series of GeN2 elevators are equipped with ReGen regenerative drive, which redirects the energy back into the power grid of the building - usually this energy dissipated as heat in the brake resistor. Thus, pure "green" energy is produced and electricity savings can reach 40-75%.
XO 508 and XO 021NP series escalators, the installation of which has already begun, are designed for operation in sports facilities. Each escalator can carry up to 9.000 passengers per hour. High loads are taken into account when choosing the elevator equipment: most elevators have a lifting capacity of two tons and can carry up to 26 passengers at the same time.
OTIS equipment was widely used in the construction of large-scale sports facilities and transport infrastructure. The company was a supplier of equipment for the Olympic Games in Athens (2004) and in Beijing in 2008 (Beijing International Airport, metro, and Tianjin South Railway Station). OTIS equipment was operated at the World Cup in South Africa in 2010 (10 arenas were equipped, including the Green Point Stadium (Cape Town), Moses Mabhida Stadium (Durban), Cape Town railway station, the European Football Championship in Ukraine in 2012 year (Olympic Stadium (Kiev)) and the World Cup in Brazil (2014).
Vitaly Lazutkin, Project Manager, Transstroy:
"Our task was not just to organize a convenient movement of nearly seventy thousand people in one building, which in itself is unprecedented in St. Petersburg, but to implement the project in accordance with the requirements of FIFA. According to it, the various groups of visitors should not cross over, the fans should spend a certain amount of time from point A to point B and so on. In addition, the equipment of the stadium should meet high standards of safety, reliability and environmental friendliness. Our choice was OTIS not only as a partner with experience in implementation of large-scale global projects, but also as the company that has been successfully operating in St. Petersburg for a long time".
Alexey Posvyanskii, Director of the St. Petersburg branch of Otis Russia:
"During the construction of any modern sports facility advanced energy-efficient solutions are used and OTIS can offer such solutions. Work on this ambitious project is carried out in close cooperation of our companies. We hope that this project would be successful both for Transstroy company and for us. According to the contract, handling equipment mechanical assembly end date - the end of 2015 and we will do it on time".
