Transstroy company, Russia's largest holding company in the field of infrastructure construction, has completed installation of one of the unique parts of the arena on Krestovsky Island – metal structures of the roll-out field. The whole cycle of works related to this construction - from design to production and installation was made in Russia.
Assembly of main structures of the roll-out field has been completed recently at the stadium in St. Petersburg. Metal structures consist of a frame, deck and 396 rollers on which the field will move. The total weight of the roll-out field structure is about 1.500 tons.
In the near future supply of engines that will move the field will start, and after that installation of pitch technology systems is planned. Completion of the installation of engineering structures of roll-out field is scheduled for the beginning of III quarter of this year.
All components necessary for the implementation of the basic structures of the roll-out field were produced on Russian plants based on exclusive design drawings developed by Russian engineers specifically for this object. Stadium on Krestovsky Island will be unique in Russia and one of the few stadiums in the world equipped with the roll-out field.
The roll-out field turns the stadium into a multifunctional platform: after construction a huge number of different types of activities will be held here, which will not be limited by weather and event-concepts. In addition, thanks to the ability to quickly change the cover inside the bowl, arena will be able to host a football match and a concert within one day. The world practice shows that such use of the stadium gives a higher socio-economic effect than the operation of facilities only in sporting events.
Another factor contributing to the presence of the roll-out field is northern location of the stadium and its design features (high bleachers and stationary roof), which do not allow the pitch to get full sunlight. In this regard, to ensure the quality of the football pitch aсcording to FIFA and UEFA standards, the field for most of the time will be located and maintained outside the stadium bowl.
Besides the arena pitch assembly work, assembly of the stationary roof part continues – its readiness exceeds 80%, assembly of utilities (about 40% mounted), escalators, building exterior stairs, and parking lots. Finishing works are also in the active phase: pre-finishing of bleachers, covering the stands, installation of front cover and stained glass panels. According to the contract, facility construction completion date– December, 2016.
